Iconic Singapore Bars & Restaurants:
-ATLAS Bar: Routinely placing in the world’s best bars, ATLAS has a grandeur that parallels The Great Gatsby. Stop in for cocktails, afternoon tea, or their monthly Sunday brunch. Reservations book out quite far but they are quite accommodating for walk ins, just make sure to check the dress code.
-Smoke and Mirrors: Located on the roof deck of the National Gallery, Smoke and Mirrors features a beautiful view of MBS and down town Singapore. With cocktails just as fun to look at as they are to drink, Smoke and Mirrors is a great place to enjoy the sunset after an art stroll through the gallery.
-Level 33: The world’s tallest microbrewery, Level 33 has an amazing menu of food, cocktails, wines and of course beer! The atmosphere is relaxed but a little more polished than your average brewery. Chose to enjoy the expansive MBS view from indoor or outdoor seating- reservations are necessary.
-Potato Head: Duxton Hill is the perfect date night neighborhood, and Potato Head is at the center of it all. Recognizable by its historic and unique exterior, this 4 story restaurant can suit any mood with different vibes throughout every floor, topped off with one of Singapore’s most beloved roof top bars. Reservations often require a steep min spend requirement, so be sure to take note of that or try your luck with walk in space.
-KOMA: Located within Marina Bay Sands shopping mall, KOMA is yet another epic restaurant from the TAO Group of Las Vegas. You won’t believe how much ambiance can fit through the little orange hallway. I have spent my past two birthdays here and strongly recommend it for a special occasion. Make reservations well in advance.
-Marina Bay Sands Rooftop: Everyone coming to Singapore has seen Crazy Rich Asians, and Marina Bay Sands Hotel is at the heart of it all. Instead of paying to visit the observation deck I suggest having a drink at one of the three rooftops restaurants:
Ce la vie: This is where you go for drinks and vibes, it is seperated into 2 sections: the bar-restaurant , and the club-lounge. Both sections host different weekly offerings, like "brunch" (freeflow), ladies night, and guest DJs. The club overlooks the famous MBS infinity pool, but if you are looking for a more relaxed ambiance then grab a table under the iconic red umbrellas.
SPAGO: This Wolfgang Puck resturaunt and lounge is by far my favorite option, it is located in the center and accessed via tower 2. Similar to Ce La Vie there are two different booking options, the fine dining room and the bar- lounge. I personally prefer the breezy open air ambiance in the lounge but both are eqsquisite. Do not skip on dessert and be sure to try thair carrot cake that is serves to actually look like a carrot!
Lavo: I wont lie, this is my third pick when booking a roof top reservation on MBS. The italian menu is good and the outdoor patio boasts incredible views of the city( especially for sunset) but compared to the others it just can't compare. Accessed via tower 1 in the main lobby.
-Lanterns on Fullerton Bay : What's better than being on top of MBS? Being across from it so you can enjoy the view! The Fullerton Bay is an opulent hotel in a fantastic location, head upstairs to their rooftop bar for drinks and lite bites. I'm a huge fan of the waygu sliders and margaritas!
-Raffles Lobby: An experience fit for a queen, literally! Queen Elizabeth II herself has stayed at Raffles Hotel, and afternoon tea time is the perfect place to enjoy that same level of luxury. Listen to a live harpist while sipping champagne and eating beautiful cakes and finger foods. If that's not the "cup of tea" youre after, then check out one of their other drinking options, like the Raffles Long bar- home of the Singapore Sling!
Low Key Eats:
-Hawker centers: Hawkers are open air food centers that offer a variety of famous dishes from different local or ethnic cuisines. Food is a large part of the Singaporean identity and hawker stalls are often awarded Michelin stars for their food, making Singapore the cheapest place to eat a Michelin star meal!
Newton; This is the Hawker center from Crazy Rich Asians, and also home to several Michelin star winning satay stalls! Newton is my favorite for all around vibe; "chope" (reserve) a table, order a beer tower, and try something new.
Lau Pa Sat in Central Business district is one of the oldest hawker centers in Singapore. There is an entire street of satay stalls, and the ambiance is always bustling. The prices here are slightly higher as it is in a prime tourist district.
Maxwell located on the edge of China Town it is home to the stall that beat Gordon Ramsey in a cook off, Tian Tian Chicken.
-Mustard: It is unfair how many times I asked the question: "what is your favorite Indian spot?" only to recieve the answer "Mustard," again and again! Get the prawn coconut curry, served in an actual coconut and thank me later!
-Haidilao: This local chain is beloved for their extensive hot-pot options! A similar concept to fondu, except you are sitting around a boiling vat of soup which gets flavored by the different meats and vegtables. There are some really "non standard" menu options that are worth a try for more adventurous eaters. This place is great to go with friends as you can order a larger variety of foods, and also fun for birthdays.
-Smiths Fish and Chips: If you are craving something salty and vinnegarry then this is the move. Simple and well done, located in Newton. My second favorite for fish and chips is "Dad and Lad" in Duxton.
-Two Men Bagels: Whether you are hungover from a night out or starving after an early morning run there is no remedy quite like a breakfast bagel.
Where to stay:
Marina Bay Sands; A key feature of the Singapore skyline, MBS is a must visit on everyone's list. However, while a stay is required to gain access at the rooftop infinity pool, the price tag far outpaces the quality of the hotel rooms themselves. I recommend people stay for 1-2 nights and move into somewhere more worthwhile.
Raffles; The ultimate hotel for that old money vibe. Raffles is overflowing with history and opulence, I recommend a stay here for anyone looking to splurge.
Park Royal on Pickering; Most recognizable for its stunning eco architecture, Park Royal is located in a great spot on the edge of the Central business District and Boat Quay.
Fullerton Bay; Walking into the lobby at Fullerton Bay just exudes luxury and this hotel is in a prime location for those trying to stay in the main MBS area.
Vagabond; My second home! I lived here for weeks when moving to Singapore and I truly feel it is a hidden gem. A Marriott hotel with great perks, this is one of the more affordable hotels with no expense spared on unique details. Stop by to listen to live jazz in the whiskey library
The Duxton Reserve Authograph Collection; If you are looking for a great location in the heart of Singapore then look no further than the Duxton Reserve. A Marriott brand hotel with the same ownership as The Vagabond, The Duxton Reserve is uniquely designed to reflect local culture in its shophouse building. I was blown away by the incredible service and daily breakfast that came complimentary with my Marriott status.
